The Physics and Engineering Physics Students' Association, Obafemi Awolowo University, has on Tuesday, January 23rd, orientated its new students, by inviting lectures in the department to offer them practical steps to follow for a successful academic journey they're embarking on.

While speaking, a lecturer in the department, Dr Fadodun, encouraged the new students to believe in themselves rather than having a failure mindset, when it comes to their studies. He further emphasized that students should not depend on the opinions of others, but their opinions matter. He further stated that students of Physics and Engineering Physics are more expected to learn Programming Languages and other skills related to science and technology, rather than handiworks.

Another prominent professor of the department, Professor Felix Olise, also urged the students to be determined. Furthermore, he referred to the statement of Dr Fadodun, reiterating that the students to focus on learning science and technology-related skills. He encouraged the students not to study for parental purposes but for themselves. "No OAU student has gone out there to disappoint us", he said. He condemned excuses that students give for not being able to focus on their academics.

Meanwhile, despite studying Physics and Engineering Physics, students of the department are said to be engaging themselves in Programming and other Skills. The HOD of the department, Prof Awoyemi, noted this while answering a question from a student. He further said these students have been earning from the skills while studying as physics students.

'Don't allow anything, anybody to distract you from your academics', he said, while giving his advice to the students.

Professor Olise, while answering a question, further added that the students of Physics are liable to get jobs after their graduation in Oil or Cement Companies, as doctors, accountants, and computer managers.

Meanwhile, earlier in her words, a lecturer in the department, Dr Olatinwo also advised the students to be socially oriented together with their studies.

Giving his final remark, the Vice President of the Association, Adedokun Blessing, commended the efforts of the students and lecturers of the department to be present at the Fresher's Orientation.
