Chief Of Defence Staff, Lucky Irabor Commissions Remodeled Students' Union Building

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor Commissioned the newly renovated Ken Saro Wiwa Students’ Union Building on Saturday, 12th November 2022, at the Main Hall, African Centre of Excellence, Obafemi Awolowo University.
The general who sponsored the renovation expressed that OAU has had a great impact on the life of many alumni and the country as a whole.
He charged the students’ Union body to have a clear direction with the capacity to lead.
In his remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire amidst welcoming the Chief of Defence Staff, appreciated the efforts committed to renovating the Students’ Union Building.
While being grateful that the renovation took place during his administration, he confirmed that this is the first time that the building will enjoy a comprehensive renovation. He further noted that the University buildings have been built for over 50 years, and over time, some of the buildings have become dilapidated.

Prof. Bamire also confirmed that the Department of Geology, White House is under renovation and to be completed soon. He elaborated that the sponsor of the renovation is also an alumnus who has pledged support to make sure laboratories in departments are well-equipped.
Earlier, In his speech, the president of the union, Olayiwola Folahan Festus thanked the Chief of Defense Staff, Gen Lucky Irabor, on behalf of other Union officers, SRC members, and Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, for his commitment to the Renovation of the Students’ Union Building.
The General received an award of appreciation from the Students Union followed by a large-scale picture. He also received an art design from the university management.
Also in attendance are, Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Aransi, the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju, members of the University’s Management Board, including the Chief Imam of the University, the Chaplain of the University, Deans of Faculties, the Students’ Union Officers, the Students’ Representative Council and Past Leaders of the Great IFE Students’ Union.
The rest of the Project’s Commissioning was moved to the renovated Students’ Union Building.
