The students' union action committee of Obafemi Awolowo University has decided to make a move on regaining the consciousness of the students.
In a meeting held on Friday, the committee, chaired by Gbenga Oloniniran, highlighted the fact that the rate at which students are becoming nonchalant about union issues is on the high side.
A member of the committee, Samuel Oladunni, proffered that the action commitee, in a bid to raise the consciousness of the students, should start by pasting circulars and engaging students in different halls of residence.
Mr. Oladunni's submission was backed by another member who included that the committee can increase students' participation in students' unionism by holding gatherings in halls of residence.
He stated that that the gathering should start from Angola and Mozambique halls of residence.
The committee arrived at the resolution that the resuscitation exercise will commence next week with immediate pubicity and also steps to make it a successful one.
According to another member, Oluwalade Babatunde, he noted that the massive involvement of freshmen should be welcome in any struggle and that any step that will be taken, should be guided logically and not emotionally.
Meanwhile, Comrade Owolabi added that the gathering should not coincide with a football match for a massive participation.
The meeting, which spanned for over 2 hours, spurred discussions about recent happenings in halls of residence; ranging from blocking of entrances leading to to Fajuyi hall, the fire accident in Alumni hall and allegations of abuse of power against porters in Awolowo hall.
