Following the Faculty of Arts Students' Association (FASA) forthcoming election, the National Association of Philosophy Students (NAPS) had conducted a primary election amongst two students of the department aspiring for the presidency of the faculty.
In the primaries held on Thursday, Komolafe Tolulope (Toluano) and Akanho Olanshile (Shile) contested during a Congress of students.
Mr Olanshile was later announced the winner of the election after polling 45 votes ahead of his opponent.
According to the chairman of the committee, Akande Taiwo Oriyomi, the total number of vote was 250; 23 votes was void, Mr. Tolulope had 91 votes while Mr. Olanshile polled 136 votes.
OAU KILONSHELE correspondent gathered that the election was held sequel to the decision of the department to massively support a candidate for the forthcoming FASA election.
In a conversation with both contestants, the two confirmed that the election was free and fair conducted by transparent electoral officials.
Speaking with this media outfit, Mr. Olanshile said: his main aim for contesting is to revive the academic excellence of FASA students by facilitating special programmes like seminars and researchs.
However, Mr. Tolulope vowed to contest again in the forthcoming election.
"I loosing the election cannot stop me from contesting in the upcoming FASA election because only the department of philosophy cannot decide for the whole of the FASA, which has other 8 departments," He told our correspondent.
