NBTS STAFF COMMEND STUDENTS AS OAU ALPHA CLUB ORGANISED A BLOOD DONATION PROGRAMME DURING THEIR CHARITY WEEK.
There was a Massive turn-out of Obafemi Awolowo University students as Alpha Club organized a blood donation for their “Lifesaving” progamme.
Awareness was made in all OAU halls of residence about their charity week which was slated between Tuesday 17th-20th July, 2017. Free buses were made available by the organization for the students of the institution going from Bus-stop to gate on the first day which was 18th of July.
The main programme which was tagged “SAVE BLOOD, SAVE LIFE” was brought to OAU campus in conjunction with NATIONAL BLOOD TRANSFUSSION SERVICE.
Two venues were chosen for the programme to hold, one at the department of Micro Biology and the other at the department of Physics popularly known as 'White House' .
“People are donating blood to save life, and it is encouraging as students are responding massively” said Mr. Paul-David, a member of Alpha Club.
It was made known that the club packaged some gifts as compensation to the donors. Mr. Paul told our correspondent that
"students did not donate their blood all because of the package the club has been giving them, but are doing it because the want to save life."
“Some of my friends were discouraging me not to donate my blood but I did because I have passion for programmes like this that involves saving another human life since I was a kid” This statement was made by one of the donors , a student of the department of Geology.
One of the staff of NBTS said she was very amazed as all the donors were being tested before they could donate their blood and none of them was detected to have any Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) which render them a regular donor anytime there is a need for it. She commended the students’ efforts for making the programme a success.
