NASU AND SSANU MEMBERS DEFEND PROF. ELUJOBA IN A CONGRESS.
Prior to the outcome of the court sitting at federal high court, Ede, Osun state on the 11th of July, the members of the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria University (SSANU) held a congress in the early hours of Wednesday, 12th of July at the Main Bowl.
The congress was presided by the NASU chairman and it had representatives of the DSS from Abuja and press men in attendance.
The chairman made it known that the former Acting VC, prof. Anthony Elujoba who is currently facing 7 count charges with the bursar of the university, Ronke Akeredolu in the court, was entitled to a statutory furniture allowance of 7 million naira, he did not apply for it but he only collected 5 million naira after being notified by the bursar. The bursar then offered to present a contractor for the furniture works but the former ag . VC declined.
He proceeded and stated that the two unions have petitioned the Omole led administration for the illegal deduction of their salaries at the EFCC office in Ibadan and nothing has been done. The case file number is 'Oau file 2' but the alleged has not been summoned. NASU Chairman lamented saying:
"Why disturbing the man that has done wonderfully well for this nation just because he did the needful by paying the owed salaries of about 1.1 billion naira? "
He furthered by saying that; the incidence of which the court began the sitting before the arrival of the defendant' lawyer, which was against the time given by the judge needs to be probed and looked in to. Also, he blamed the registrar of the university, Dr. Awoyemi, for not to have informed the the erstwhile ag. VC of the due process of disbursement.
At the congress, the members of the two unions stated publicly that they are solidly behind the Ag. VC and they await him being released on bail on Friday, 14th of July when there is another court sitting.
