The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile -Ife, has declared a two-week mid-semester break, beginning from March 28, 2022. This was stated in a release made on Saturday, signed by the university’s registrar, Mrs Magaret Idowu Omosule. The statement read: “ This is to inform staff and students of the university that Management, at a meeting held today, Saturday, 26th March, 2022, approved a two-week mid-semester break for students beginning from Monday, 28th March, 2022. “We wish students of the university an enjoyable break. ” The university had since been rocked with series of protests by a group of Ife indigenes who reacted to the non-appointment of Ife indigene as the Vice Chancellor of the university. The protest was, however, recently suspended.

Following the demonstration staged by the indigenes of Ile-Ife in the Obafemi Awolowo University community in the early hours of today agitating for the OAU Vice-Chancellorship of an Ife Indegene and protesting against the newly elected Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adebayo Bamire as OAU KILONSHELE reported earlier.  The Obafemi Awolowo University Management in its press release statement forwarded by the University Public Relations Officer, Dr Olanrewaju Abiodun reacts to such occurrence stating "Determined to forcefully install an Ile-Ife indigene as the next Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University". The press statement further reveals that due process were followed in the selection of the Vice Chancellor and was on merit basis. Oyesola Victor Group of traditionalists spotted staging protest at motion ground     Ife indigenes resumed protest today, the 21st of March 2022 at 6a.m and hindered movement in and out of the main gate of Obafemi Awolowo University.  The protesters asked students and other stakeholders to go back to their hostels and homes. Phones of students attempting to make videos of the incident were reportedly seized. People who attempted to force their way into the school were allegedly beaten.        The protesters were found carrying banners saying “Ife4VC”. A banner was spotted at the school gate reading “Ogunbodede tell lies against Ife. He is a betrayal and a traitor.”  A group of traditionalists were also sighted among the protesters chanting traditional songs. Inspector Afeez Olaniyan, the Investigative Police Officer who undertook the first probe into the death of late Timothy Adegoke, a Master’s student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has narrated how some defendants arraigned in connection with the death of the deceased, evacuated and dumped his corpse in the bush. Being led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, M. Omosun, during the continuation of the trial of Dr. AbdulRahman Adedoyin and six others; Olaniyan said from the statement extracted from Adeniyi Aderogba and Oyetunde Kazeem, two of the staffers of the Hilton Hotels, Ile-Ife, after the death of the late Adegoke, his corpse was wrapped with a duvet, and taken out in a Hilux van driven by the son of the hotel owner, Roheem Adedoyin, to where it was dumped. A final year student of Foreign Language, Obafemi Awolowo University, Adesina Aisha Omowunmi, died on Thursday evening from a brief illness after she was neglected at the university health centre OAU Kilonshele learnt from a fellow student that Wunmi was seriously sick and was rushed to the university's health centre. At the university's health centre, Wunmi was given malaria drugs and ulcer medication when she complained of shortness of breath. After complaints from colleagues, she was referred to Seventh-day Adventist hospital without a referral letter or any acknowledgment means.
