OAU Youngest Professor Appointed New JAMB Registrar

The youngest professor at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Segun Aina, has been appointed as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The appointment was announced by the Presidency through the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Professor Aina will succeed Is-haq Oloyede, whose tenure is expected to end on July 31, 2026.

Professor Aina, aged 39, currently serves as a Professor of Computer Engineering at OAU. His appointment makes him the youngest registrar in the history of JAMB, adding to his recognition as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering.

He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, before earning a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom.

Aina’s relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service period, where he gained early experience in the national admissions system while serving with the examination body.

With over 15 years of experience, the OAU professor is known for his work at the intersection of technology and policy. He has advised federal and state governments on digital transitions, system development, and technology-driven solutions.

Beyond JAMB, Professor Aina has also served as consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), particularly in the areas of ICT and examination integrity.

Apart from academics and public service, he co-founded Fluid Click Solutions Ltd, an information technology and engineering project management company, in 2010.

Professor Aina has authored about 30 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers. He is also a COREN-registered engineer and a member of several professional organisations, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
