OAU Alumna Donates Blind Sticks To Unilorin Special Needs Centre

An alumna of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Deborah Aderogba, has donated five blind sticks to the Centre for Students with Special Needs at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) as part of efforts to support visually impaired students within the institution.

Deborah, who is currently serving as a corps member in the Department of French at the University of Ilorin, made the donation on Friday, May 15, 2026.

The items were officially received by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, on behalf of the Centre for Students with Special Needs.

Speaking during the presentation, Deborah stated that the donation was inspired by her desire to give back to the university community and contribute meaningfully to the welfare of students living with disabilities.

She explained that the blind sticks would help visually impaired students navigate the campus environment more comfortably and ensure that mobility challenges do not hinder their participation in academic activities.

The OAU alumna further noted that creating an inclusive learning environment requires collective support and conscious efforts toward addressing the needs of physically challenged students in tertiary institutions.

In addition to the donation, Deborah also presented a piece of magic artwork to the Vice-Chancellor as a surprise gesture. According to her, the artwork was aimed at promoting art engagement in public spaces while also appreciating the university community for providing an enabling and supportive environment.

The gesture has drawn commendation for its thoughtful contribution toward inclusivity, student support, and humanitarian service within the academic community.
