In a demonstration of frustration over the persistent water scarcity plaguing Awolowo Hall of Residence, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), residents of Awolowo Hall took to the porters' lodge last night to voice their grievances as the residents staged a protest at the porters' lodge this night, demanding immediate action to address the persistent water scarcity on campus.

Speaking with OAU Kilonshele, a resident of Awolowo Hall voiced the collective sentiment, stating, "Since the beginning of this semester, the hall has been grappling with a lack of constant water supply. We are protesting to demand changes and questioning the school authorities, the Students Union, and the Awo Hall executive on why there hasn't been consistent water supply to the hall."

Another resident, visibly distressed, lamented the daily challenges posed by the water shortage, disclosing, "I haven't been able to take a bath for three days now due to the unreliable water supply. It's been a month of enduring this hardship, even as we navigate through our exams."

Reflecting on better times, a seasoned resident recalled, "I have been in Awolowo hall since 2018, the hall was not like this in previous sessions. Even without an executive, we didn't suffer from such constant water shortages."

Highlighting the ordeal of queuing for water, one resident emphasized, "Every time we need water, we have to endure long queues, sometimes spending up to an hour just to fetch water."

Attempting to address the grievances, the Chairman of Awolowo Hall of Residence, Seye Omisakin, assured the students, stating, "I will engage with the Students Union to provide tanker of water, and my fellow executives and I will meet with dam management tomorrow to resolve the dam water issues."

However, the promises failed to quell the discontent, as the protesting students persisted in their demands.

Providing insight into the root causes, a porter explained, "The lack of water is primarily due to irregular supply from the dam and the recent damage to the borehole pump, which occurred today at 9:30 am due to excessive use."
