The Great Ife Students' Union Electoral Commission in conjunction with Bloom Africa has held its maiden edition of inaugural poetry contest for OAU students at the mid-day hours of Sunday.

The first edition contest convened by OAU First Inaugural Poet, Memunat Alli (MY Alli) enabled a platform for interested OAU students to showcase their Spoken word and Poetry artistry skill.

According to the Convener, the mode of entry for contestants was made free to enable equal and accessible opportunities for students as enjoyed during her period.

The contest took 2 stages upon which 15 were shortlisted for the grand finale held on Sunday, 2nd July at the Students' Union Building, Dennis TV room.

The grand finale was exhibited in 2 stages in which the top 6 and top 3 were selected respectively with Khadijat Sunmola, a Part 2 Soil Science student emerging as the overall winner of the inaugural poetry contest.

Khadijat Sunmola speaking with OAU KILONSHELE expressed her pleasure and said she was doubtful of herself emerging as the winner while caught between the semester's examination and the poetry contest.

"I didn't even know I will make it through the first stage because I was preparing for a very tough exam while writing the very first poem for the first stage." She said.
