Sunday, 17th of December.
By Olufemi Alfred .O.
The Federal ministry of Education has invited the Joint Action Committee(JAC), which is the body for all Non-academic staff unions, for a meeting over the resumption of their suspended strike on December 4. This is aimed at negotiating with the leaderships of the unions over the letter received, stating their on-going strike action.
In the invitation letter, dated 15th of December, the leaders of the non-academic staff unions, comprising of The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Non Academic Staff Union, NASU, and National Association Academic Technologists, NAAT; are to meet with the honourable minister by 11:00am on Tuesday, 19th of December.
The meeting, which is to be held at HME conference hall at Abuja, was communicated through the office of Mrs. Ojo J.S, the Director of Tertiary Education.
The leaders of the aggrieved unions are then urged to accept the offer(s) of the honourable minister at the meeting.
"Please accept the honourable minister's renewed assurances and considerations." the letter stated.
OAU KILONSHELE reported the commencement of the indefinite strike action by the Non-teaching Staff unions of universities and the cause. The disagreement occurred as a result of the skewed ratio of 89:11 over the sharing of the Earned Allowance EA disbursed by the Federal Government few weeks back.
In the breakdown of payment by the Federal Government, 89 percent of the 23 billion naira, was alloted to ASUU while the other unions are to share the remaining 11 percent.
