OAU SSANU, NAAT, NASU PROTEST: SCHOOL MANAGEMENT THREATENS TO SANCTION PROTESTING MEMBERS.

     In a special release dated 30th of November and signed by the Registrar, the University management of Obafemi Awolowo threatened to subject any disruption of school academic activities by the protesting members of the Three non academic staff unions to sanctioning.

"Blockage of the University roads, molestation of staff and preventing of students and staff from carrying out their lawful duties, will be met with serious sanction."

The non-academic staff unions; The  Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Non Academic Staff Union, NASU,  and National Association Academic Technologists, NAAT, as reported by OAU KILONSHELE, have been agitating for the fair sharing of the Earned Allowance released by the Federal government.

     Dotun Awoyemi, the Registrar of the University, explained the background of the whole saga, the refusal of the sister unions to agree to the payment and that the issue is a national one.

     "In a letter from the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), dated 17th of November, the University was informed that the sum of #1, 739, 406, 074.68 had been cashed-back in to the TSA sub-account with the Central Bank of Nigeria being the Earned Allowance with #1, 571, 133, 153.50 alloted to ASUU and #168, 272, 921.18 for the Non-teaching Staff." the letter read.

     He added that that the aggrieved unions embarked on an industrial action on Tuesday without a prior notice issued to the management, molested staff and students, and vandalised some persons vehicle.
     "They also prevented the holding of an inaugural lecture at Oduduwa hall, beat up a professor and impounded his vehicle, which they used to block the road. These reprehensible conducts constitute an embarrassment to the University, thereby bringing the image of the University to disrepute." he stated.

     Against the stance of not allowing payment to any of the unions by the Non-academic staff unions, the University has decided that any union that's ready to collect her own will be paid without any delay. This is sequel to the policy of the Federal government to mop back the money to the Treasury Single Account as personnel emoluments if not paid by 31st of December.

   Meanwhile, the Chairman of NASU OAU, Wole Odewumi, reacted to the allegations of vandalism against the protest staged, saying;

   "They've alleged us at the meeting and we denied because they weren't able to provide any evidence to back up their claims."

 " If they pay anyone the money, they are looking for trouble. After our investigations, we discovered that the letter they presented was not duly stamped and even the logo on it is of the Nigerian Prisons and not from the office of the Accountant General." he furthered.

    In a Congress of the unions held today, it was gathered by OAU KILONSHELE  that a meeting of Joint Action Committee (JAC) at the national level, will be held tomorrow, Friday, and will address the issue.

    The chairman of OAU SSANU, Mr. Ademola Oketunde, in his address, assured members to persevere and be consistent with the struggle.

    "Even if we will be going on a strike action because of OAU, it won't take too long for us to resume because they will respond to our demands. I urge you all to persevere and remain undaunted." he said.

    He also explained that most of Nigerian universities like Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) have been paid some of the monies owed between 2013 till date but OAU has not attempted that.

 After several submissions from members of the unions, it was agreed that the Congress should be postponed to Monday, 4th of December.

   However, asides from the instructions that commercial motorcyclists are not allowed entrance to the campus because of some cases of exploitation during the struggle, there was movement today.
