OAU STUDENTS SEEK PUBLIC ATTENTION FOR THE REINSTATEMENT OF SUSPENDED STUDENTS.
At about 5:30pm on Sunday, Oct 15th 2017, the Student's Union of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife held her 7th congressional meeting.
The meeting was held as a result of the resolution of the Parliamentary meeting which was held at the level of Awolowo Hall cafeteria. The purpose of the meeting was to deliberate on the issue of the reinstatement of the 10 suspended students; Jacob Oluwatosin Grace (SU V.P), Oluwalade Babatunde(TMC), Udeh John, Omole Ibukun(Hon. IBK), and some post graduate students.
The student union President, Oyekan Ibukun Edward , popularly known as Dr IBK, said the submission of the generality of Oau student is what the union will act upon concerning the suspended student. The President made it known that the post graduate students representatives have been invited since the issue on ground affect some of their colleagues so as for them to solidarize with the union.
Hon. Emmanuel, one of those who dropped their submissions, proposed that the union should give the management 24hours notification of a lecture boycott so that the management will not push them to a moral corner by saying they will shutdown the university.
He expressed further by urging the union to invite the suspended students and ask them if they are ready to go by the union way for their reinstatement.
Amidst several submissions, Oluwalade Babatunde (Baba Tee), one of the suspended students, implored the General Secretary to write letter to the university management about the lecture boycott on Tuesday so that the management.
"I suggest we welcome Osinbajo and other political dignitaries coming to leadership summit at Ile-Ife with protest so that the whole Nigerians will know our grievance..." he said.
Also, Olaoye Gideon, the legal adviser to the SU Security committee, said;
" We're not being realistic of the problem we're facing otherwise we will take this issue seriously before it goes out of hands. "
Meanwhile, a student from the post graduate college said the university has so much degenerated that the protest from students are welcomed with police arrest.
Another post graduate student warns that the university have rules that boycotting lectures without prior notice can lead to the university being shut down. He propose that instead of a lecture boy, they should hold a press conference in all channels in Nigeria so that the public will know their demands.
However, the congress resolved to go to Osogbo this morning, October 16, for a press conference; a letter will be written to Ooni of Ife to inform him about the state of things and, a symposium and bon fire will be organized this week.
