EX UNION LEADERS PROFFER SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS OF OAU STUDENTS' UNION.

   In the program tagged 'The platform' under the auspices of the Assistant secretary General (ASG) of Great ife student Union of Obafemi Awolowo University, the former officers of the Union present spoke to the students present and proffered solutions to the problems affecting the Union recently.
 
    The programme, which commenced about 4:45pm on Friday, 13th of October , kicked off with the revolutionary anthem of the great ife student. The AGS, Oyebanjo Olwaseun popularly known as Siewen gave the opening speech and stated need to reorientate all great ife student for a better life in his welcome address. "Student of the world must unite and fight, and it's a must to reinvigorate a better course of action." he said.
 
  The programme had past students activists like peniela Akintujoye, a former Students' Union parliamentarian and  comrade Engels, an astute activist as guest speakers . The floor was opened by Mr olateruje segun Elisha, who spoke on: judicial council; role and function. He explained it as a section where legal matters of the Union are treated and interpretation of the law. He also noted that corruption must be fought in the Students Representative Council (SRC) and Central Executive Council (CEC) .

" The arch of the world is long but it must bend towards justice". he stated.

  Aside the debates between Fajuyi hall and Awolowo hall of residence, questions were also entertained after the lectures from the audience.
 
    Barrister Peniela spoke on the topic : A need for radical student Unionism. He said the purpose of Unionism is to join words and pull down  mountains. Because of the misuse of power, majorly all laws are Anti-student /Anti-poor, because they are intended to frustrate the intention of the students, which made him to State emphatically, saying;
   
" Students Union is on a purpose to check the excess of the Management. Increment in fee doesn't improve the welfare".

   He furthered saying; 'A wide range consciousness should be raised among Great Ife student, to see reason to fight for their right and for future to come and an Action committee should be in place by the Congress, which will consist of CEC, parliamentarian and Congress men. The committee must have 3 sub groups of political, legal action and finance. He also emphasized that the action committee be allowed to call and report to Congress only."
 
 Comrade Angel advocate the need to cross-fertilize ideas. He said that the student Unionism isn't a child's play and must not be left in the hands of intellectual vegetables.

  " The Students' Union isn't a middleman between management and students, because those are meant for senior prefects: but SU is based on the principle of attack and defend the interest of students" Comrade Engels emphasized.
 
    The two speakers challenged the over 150 on sit that only radical student can join student Unionism., because only radical student can speak to the management.

Reactions were taken from the students at different junctions.   Ajose Gideon, a part one student present, referred to current SU leaders in his words as those that are intellectually vacant; and concluded that management will continue to pose threat, but Unionism must also continue to stand against them.

The over 4 hours long programme ended with the revolutionary anthem of Great ife student at around 10:55pm.
