PROF. OGUNBODEDE, NEW V.C, PROMISED TO CHANGE THE SCHOOL'S CURRICULA IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE SELF-EMPLOYMENT AT HIS INAUGURATION CEREMONY.
Joyful celebration filled the atmosphere on Wednesday, 7th of June as the university community celebrated the inauguration of the 11th substantial Vice Ch
ancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University at Oduduwa Hall of the University.
The ceremony which took off at about 11:30am, had in attendance ; Royal fathers, dignitaries, academicians, members of staff and students of the institution. The occasion was also graced by the presence of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, (Oba Enitan Ogunwusi), the immediate outgoing acting Vice Chancellor (Prof. Anthony Elujoba), the pro- Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council (Prof. Yemi Ogunbiyi) and other prominent personalities of the school.
Prof. Anthony Elujoba in his valedictory speech expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the staff and students and especially for their support during his detention at the office of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC). He furthered after his words to the new VC saying;
" I did not steal a Kobo from anybody."
The peaceful transition as described by the Ooni in his address, is a memorable one and the first since the founding of the University. He clearly stated after composing a song to appreciate God for the event, that;
"this is the beginning of a new dawn in Obafemi Awolowo University."
The new VC in his first speech delivery as the Vice Chancellor, showered encomiums on the Chairman of the governing Council for making the right decision despite the pressure mounted on him during the selection process. He also highlighted some of his plans for the university which includes ; seeing to the welfare of both staff and students, generating revenue through tourism and a change in the school's curricula in order to impart entrepreneurship skills for the self employment of students after graduation.
He then solicited for the trust and cooperation of the members of staff and students, and pledged saying;
"I will do the best I can".
