The Association of Campus Journalists, OAU (ACJOAU), held its third edition of the Annual Inter-News Agency Oratory Contest on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

The event, which took place at the Faculty of Education, Obafemi Awolowo University, commenced at 10:36 a.m. and brought together nine campus news agencies in a competitive display of oratory skill and critical engagement.

Organised by ACJOAU, the contest was themed, “The Agenda-Setting Power of the Media: How Far Does It Shape Public Perception?”

The event was moderated by Hairat Balogun, Editor of InFocus News Agency, while Thomas Israel Ajake and Isaiah Adepoju served as judges.

Proceedings commenced with the school anthem, followed by a welcome address from the ACJOAU President, Esther Olatimeyin, who introduced the judges and participating agencies. An opening prayer was delivered by Editor Precious Edun of OAU Kilonshele News Agency, after which the modalities guiding the contest were outlined.

The competition began with an impromptu session, which served as the first round. Contestants were given random topics and three minutes each to present their arguments, testing their instinctiveness and composure. While the judges deliberated, unused impromptu questions were extended to members of the audience, who also participated in the exercise.

At the end of the first round, five news agencies advanced to the final stage, including OAU Kilonshele, represented by Ifeoluwa Lambe and Aminat Orisatoye.

In the final round, contestants delivered prepared speeches on the contest theme, examining the influence of the media in shaping public attention and perception.

A total of nine agencies participated in the competition, each represented by two contestants: OAU Kilonshele, The ICONS Organisation, ASPOB Conglomerate, InFocus News Agency, KOWEE News Agency, NAPSS OAU Press Team, NASELS Communication Bureau, Great Ife Network, and OAU Peeps.

At the end of the contest, participating agencies were ranked based on cumulative scores across both rounds, with OAU Kilonshele finishing among the top five teams.

The contest, which has grown steadily since its inception, continues to provide a platform for student journalists to develop public speaking skills, critical thinking, and engagement with topical issues in media and society.
