Students associations on obafemi awolowo university campus have reacted differently to the notice of compulsory level by the Division of Students Affairs.

The division in a public release, ordered all registered associations on campus to pay five hundred naira in order to gain access to the halls of residence when the fresh students resume.

Speaking with OAU KILONSHELE correspondent, some of the leaders of these student groups expressed their dissenting views of the levy  introduced.

The Pesident of National association of Ondo State students, Adekola Oluwasesan, said that the directive is a good step noting that it will prevent unregistered association from gaining entrance to the halls.

"I feel it's okay but on the other side I feel it might prevent other associations that are not registered and that would not be possible to register before fresh men come in from attending to one of their responsibilities" he said.

Also, the President of National association of public administration students Christian fellowship, Blessing Fayemi, stated that it will help curb activities of irrelevant associations on campus and ensure sanity on the campus.

"In every organizations there should be limitations and boundaries so as to avoid a situation whereby gatherings that are not even supposed to be called a fellowship (association) from existing."

"We know the current state and number of fellowships (association) in OAU. I think boundaries and limitations should be placed to ensure orderliness" she added

However, the Acting Coordinator of Education Right Campaign of OAU chapter, Olowolafe Samuel, in a conversation with our corespondent, made it known that the mandatory payment is a sign of lack of sentivity on the management's side and that it also an avenue  for them achieve their agenda of commercialisation

"The introduction of #500 charge for campus organisations to welcome and render neccesary assistance to incoming students simply reflects the insensitivity and full-scale commercialisation agenda of the authorities." he said.

He furthered that the school management have not been able to resolve the accommodation issue on ground to improve the welfare of all the students and that the fee placed on all association who intend to assist the fresh students when they resume is aribitray and a mere exploitation of the students organizations on campus.

"At a time when the university authority hasn't done any tangible thing to alleviate the suffering and challenges of both incoming and returning students who are plagued with the accommodation policy, demanding an arbitrary fee of #500 for a voluntary assistance is the height of exploitation and disrepect for the toiling students and their respective organisations." Mr. Olowolafe protested.

It should be noted that fresh students are to resume on March 31 while the stalites will resume on April 7 for the 2018/2019 academic session.
