4.6b IS WHAT IS NEEDED FOR THE SCHOOL TO BE IN A GOOD CONDITION- Ag. VC claims
Tuesday, 07/02/2017.
The different workers' associations of the university were gathered for a protest at the Senate building of the school in a bid to complain about the removal of certain percentage from their salaries and also to cry out on the death of a laboratory staff in the chemistry laboratory, which occurred last week. This was done with placards with inscriptions like "say no to oppression " on them.
It was in this spirit that the Ag. Vice chancellor, Prof. Anthony Elujoba appeared at the scene. He addressed the mob, starting from the condolence as regards the death, which was attributed to the irregularities and poor maintenance of the laboratories. The Ag. VC said he wasn't aware of the evil occurrence until 30 minutes ago. After the condolence address, he promised to ensure a training programme for the knowledge of proper handling of chemicals. He then urged them all to handle all chemicals, water inclusive with care, and prayed saying "May you all live long in Jesus name".
Also, he assured them that their money would be paid in few days saying, "You all know that the last time I gave you 24hrs ultimatum, before the given time, you were all here to jubilate. In few days, you will all jubilate".
However, he entertained questions and it was at this point that members of the workers' union expressed their grievances. A man from the chemistry laboratory requested that the Ag. VC should visit all laboratories in order to see their dilapidated state, having visited all halls of residence. Also, a man from the pharmacy laboratory complained about the contaminated chemicals and their health implications on them, thus requesting that the management should look in to it.
Prof. Anthony replied the previously asked questions by giving the assurance that he will visit the laboratories though he knows their state and how inimical those chemical substances are to their health. He furthered saying, "what is needed for the school to be in a good condition is 4.6 billion naira and we are working tirelessly on getting things done within the little period of time remaining for my tenure". He ended his address by urging all workers to get back to work.
