OAU's Moremi Hall Celebrates New Borehole Donation

A ceremony was held at Moremi Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University, to commission a newly donated borehole. The donation was made by Mrs. Akanni, the Hall Warden, and her household, in honor of her dedication to the hall.


Dignitaries present included the Dean of Student Affairs, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Abayomi Damilola, the Registrar, and other university officials.


In his opening remarks, DVC (Administration), Professor Abayomi Daramola, who represented the Vice Chancellor and commissioned the project. commended Mrs. Akanni's generosity, stating that providing water brings blessings. He also urged students to remember their alma mater and give back to their community when they become successful.


Residents of Moremi Hall expressed their gratitude for the new borehole, citing reduced stress and increased access to clean water. Adeleke Betty, a resident of Block C, said, "It's a good project. When you're in a position to help people, you should help. Mrs. Akanni saw there was a water issue and she did something. The project was done fast, and that's commendable. It's a job well done, thank you to them, God bless them." She said 


Oladepo Rahmatallahi, a resident of Block E, added, "Thank you very much to the donor, to the executive, and all. It's really impactful." She said 


In an interview with the Hall Chairperson, she expressed her gratitude and excitement about the new borehole. "I thank God because I believe it's an achievement in my administration. I'm happy because Moremi Hall residents will have access to water. Moremi has always been known for scarcity of water." She said.


She explained that the hall's administration had faced challenges in finding a suitable location for the borehole and ensuring the security of the hall during the project. "Asides from intervention and calling friends, the project took a month." She said.


The Chairperson appealed to residents to handle the borehole with care, saying, "I'd implore Moremi queens to use and handle the borehole with care so that it would serve us for a long time." She said.


She assures Moremi Residents that there's more initiatives to come and this is just the beginning of the changes her administration has to offer.
