OAU Senate Commends University Management's Decision, Condemns Students' Protest

Olabode Oluwafemi OAU Senate held emergency meeting with respect to the official letter released at the early hours of Tuesday citing in its agendum "Situation On Campus". As earlier known, OAU students on Nigeria's 61st Independence day celebration, wage to protest against the role of negligence played by the University health center which resulted to death of Adesina Aishat Omowumi, a student of the Department of Foreign Language, after being referred to Seventh-day Adventist Hospital. The demonstration which lasted for 10 consecutive hours held Ife-Ibadan and Ife-Ede Highway under blockage. OAU Senate, on Tuesday evening, expressed its displeasure towards the protest carried out by students and further commended the school management for taking "proactive decision" by suspending students activities, stressing that "precious lives could have been lost if action had been delayed."
