Following the widely circulated news report, which alleged the Obafemi Awolowo University chapter of Association of Campus Journalists to have demanded the sum of 5 million naira from the university management for a leadership summit, the writer, Bamidele Williams of PigeonPost, a Campus News hub, was confirmed to have begged the Dean of the Division of Students Affairs, Isiaka Aransi, after the acknowledgement of the errors in his reportage.

The allegations posted online, as reported by OAU KILONSHELE, was sent by the news hub on the 17th of January. The outfit claimed the involvement of the Dean of DSA and Vice-chancellor in the alleged financial demands.

In the evening of Thursday, the Dean summoned the writer to a meeting and according to Caleb Farombi, an eyewitness, the writer could not defend the news piece after interrogations by the Dean.

"The Dean was furious after Bamidele couldn't answer the questions posed at him." Farombi asserted.

He buttressed that Bamidele prostrated to beg the Dean and others present joined in the pleading so as to pacify him(Dean), who saw the report as an indictment without proofs.

An audio recording as gathered by OAU KILONSHELE, made it known that the journalist actually spoke with the Dean, but wrote his report based on inference after the phone conversation.

However, when contacted, Bamidele denied pleading with the management but claimed that he only attended a fatherly-peace-making meeting facilitated by the Dean between himself and the Association in question.

" The Dean advised me not to use derogatory words and like my father, I can't reject his advice." he stated.

Meanwhile, evidences showed that the journalist has been trying to fix a secret meeting with the President of the Association, Okeowo Olasunkanmi, which the president refused and maintained that if a retraction did not occur, the association is bent on going legal, charging him for libel.

The ultimatum of 24hrs provided in the Rejoinder written by the leadership of the Association, indicating that the writer should retract the piece, has elapsed..

"PigeonPost news agency has injured and soiled the good name, reputation, objectivity and moral standard upheld by the Association for the past 47 years of existence. And in light of this, the Association demands prove(s) of what was written within 24hours to this release or face legal consequences." the rejoinder read.
