Following NUC's Directive, OAU Shuts Down Academic Activities

Damola Badmos   The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has decided to shut down the campus in lieu of the approaching 2023 general elections.  This release is coming after an earlier made statement by the National Universities Commission that all Federal government Institutions should embark on a three-week break for the approaching elections.  In a statement obtained by OAU KILONSHELE and signed by the Registrar of the institution, Mrs. M.I Omosule, the University and Inter-University centres should embark on a break from 22nd February, 2023 to 11th March 2023. Again, OAU Students Stranded As Town-gboro Drivers Suspend Activities

Adeniran Tolulope On Tuesday, the commercial shuttle bus drivers known as Town-gboro working within OAU axis boycotted work and went on a strike action due to the Naira exchange crisis and transportation prices. They continually halted activities in demand for an increase in transport charges. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, students, who were affected by the strike action, were stranded at the campus gate, as there were no buses to convey them to the university community. Students who narrated their ordeal said they were forced to trek to campus, as some classes were being held amidst the crisis. Since then, the Union Transport Management Commission and the Student's Union Leadership have provided buses to convey students to Campus.   According to the Secretary to the committee, the students were conveyed in and out of the campus with the Union Buses and other available vehicles. Moremi Hall Resident Attempts Suicide

A Medical Rehabilitation student also an occupant of Moremi hall of residence who is yet to be identified has been caught in an attempt to commit suicide after stumbling on her examination result on the school portal.  It was gathered she wrote to her colleague claiming she will take her life which immediately made them rush down to Moremi hostel where she was met crying profusely in the hall of residence common room after some thorough search conducted as she was nowhere to be found. OAU Management Mums As DOS, Others Released By DSS

 Olabode Oluwafemi   In respect to   OAU KILONSHELE earlier report   on the arrest and detention of the Students' Union Social Director, Adegboye Olamilekan - Omo Alhaji, his release has been revealed by a source. It was disclosed that the release of Omo Alhaji, Abeja Ibukun and Adebayo Nurudeen was made last Saturday while the OAU Chief Security Officer, Mr. Babatunde Oyatokun in similar vein confirmed to OAU KILONSHELE . Ajibola Heritage: One year after, justice yet to be served for deceased

Damola Badmos  On the evening of 9th February 2022, an image of a young student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife trended on the statuses of people on WhatsApp praying for her survival against the mishap that occurred in one of the female hostels located at Maintenance, the school's point of entry.  Heritage Ajibola was a part 2 student of Linguistics who resided in the Bver suites of the Maintenance Hostels. Due to a lackadaisical attitude and lack of dedication toward providing standard amenities, the young lady, unfortunately, fell into an improperly-constructed septic tank known widely as soak away during the process of withdrawing her clothes from the line.  The incident could have been prevented if the authorities of Bver suites who charge exorbitant fees from students on a bed-space basis had properly covered the septic tank or appropriately barricaded the area due to current maintenance.    Upon a prompt response from the Campus Fire Service, the gi...
