VOX POP: Is examination a true test of knowledge?

Image
Olurotimi Lois and Johnson Precious  In every academic setting, examinations can't be jettisoned. It's a prerequisite and hurdle that must be encountered before being considered qualified for the next step. Our correspondents have gone around the four walls of Obafemi Awolowo University to have the perception of students on whether an examination is considered to be a true test of knowledge. In the slightly sunny mid-hours of Friday, OAU treated female athletes from UI varsity- UI Amazons to a football dine at the University's Sport complex- Main bowl. Amidst all that raced through OAU Giantess' minds, being defeated by UI Amazons was surely not one of them. Although there are margins for doubt in football, in this case, it was negligibly minimal that the thought of it would have made a mockery.   On the flip side, it occurred that UI Amazons had other plans, as the relentlessly defiant side unsettled the OAU Giantess in a match characterized by poise and a mesh of frustration and tenacity. Halftime had both team struggle for the lead but luck was against the duo despite several attempts. UI Amazons came loaded in the second round, kicking OAU Giantess' butt with 2 goals in 54 and 61 minutes respectively. Of course, mockery chants can be heard pervading the air as spectators chorus in appraisal of their team and school.  THE COMEBACK   After the first match def

Editorial: Will OAU Students Sell their Birthright for a Loaf of Bread and Àkàrà?

Just like tales of every end of an academic calendar, session and semester also a moment of running "kiti-kiti kete-kete" for the political figures, it's another phase in the political encyclopedia of the Great Ife Students' Union and moreso an era that will pave way for the decision of Great Ife Students for another session of unionism. Interestingly, as we gravitate toward the Students' Union election the political atmosphere is gradually attaining climax. A period the students' electorate easily gets consumed by gimmicks of the incumbents even at the sight of their atrocities which played out in a press statement disbursed couple of hours ago from Office of the Students' Union Welfare Director termed "welfare package" securing 5000 loaves of bread to be accompanied with beans cake [àkàrà] for OAU students.
